Frequently Asked Questions

Here is some information to help clarify the process of our work together. Please call with any specific questions.

How do I get started?

If you are interested in meeting or learning more, please call or email me. Our initial conversation will allow me to learn a bit about your needs and be available to answer your questions about how I work, scheduling and fees. If we mutually agree that working together is a good fit, we will schedule an initial appointment. If needed, I will provide you with referrals for other therapists in the community to ensure you get the support you need.

What can I expect in our sessions?

You will find me to be active and attentive in our sessions. Each time we meet, we will discuss events and circumstances of your current life, relevant personal history, what gains have been made, how to sustain those gains, as well as what personal growth and change remains. We will also review relevant readings or worksheets, and follow-up on progress made both in, and since, our last session.

Do you accept insurance?

I currently do not accept insurance due to the limitations they impose on treatment and threats to client confidentiality. However, many insurance companies provide coverage for "out-of-network" providers, such as myself, which may offset your cost. If you plan to use your out-of-network coverage, please call your insurance company to verify your benefits/reimbursement rate, as this varies from plan to plan. I am happy to help you navigate this process.

How do I know therapy is for me?

Therapy is a great way to heal from the past, grow in the now, and thrive in the future. Life throws us many curveballs. Sometimes we are able to navigate through them with the assistance of friends, family, or other resources. Yet other times, we feel stuck and need some additional support. A therapist can assist you in developing adaptive strategies and skills, resulting in greater emotional and physical well-being.

What happens in the first meeting?

Before coming in, you will be asked to complete some paperwork electronically via my client portal. This service is HIPAA compliant in order to ensure your privacy. The initial couple appointments are also an opportunity to explore whether we may be a good fit. We will discuss your life currently as well as relevant personal history. Together we will determine your needs and a realistic plan for getting you where you'd like to be.

Is everything kept confidential?

As a licensed psychologist, I adhere to strict standards of confidentiality as outlined by HIPAA, the American Psychological Association and the laws and regulations of the state of Colorado. For more information about these standards of confidentiality, and how medical information about you may be used and disclosed, please review my initial paperwork.

What are your fees?

Individual therapy sessions are $200 for 50 minutes. This fee is comparable to that of other doctoral-level psychologists in Denver with a similar level of training and experience. Payment is due at the time of service in the form of cash, check, credit or HSA/FSA cards. If you plan to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement of fees (based on your out-of-network coverage), you can either print superbills from the patient portal 24/7, or elect to have superbills automatically emailed to you on a regular basis.

What about medication?

Research has repeatedly shown that individuals who use a combination of medication and psychotherapy often achieve greater success than individuals who use medication alone. As a psychologist, I am not licensed to prescribe medication. However, I frequently work with prescribing PCPs and Ob-Gyns to coordinate care. I can also help facilitate a referral to a trusted psychiatrist in the community.
